Welcome! I’m an Assistant Professor at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, leading the research and teaching group on Comparative Politics. Before coming to Berlin, I held positions at the University of Oslo, the University of Osnabrueck, and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA).
I combine quantitative methods with contemporary and archival data to study how autocracies function as well as the causes and consequences of political violence. Current research projects study how wars shape political behavior, loyalty and indoctrination in dictatorships, and the politics of symbolic infrastructure projects.
Results of my research have been published or are forthcoming in the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics, World Politics, the British Journal of Political Science, and Comparative Political Studies, among others.
